Starkweather Medical Massage Therapy is designed to give patients professional manual therapy techniques to help reduce their pain. Each treatment is structured to help resolve a specific area of pain that a patient is having. Several different techniques may be utilized during a single treatment session to help treat the cause of the problem. This therapy may help patients who have sought other forms of treatment, but continue to suffer. These services are also a great alternative if insurance does not cover, or will no longer cover further therapy sessions. In addition, these techniques work well in conjunction with other forms of therapy such as physical therapy or chiropractic care.
The patient can expect a clean, safe, and comfortable environment to encourage relaxation. An evaluation will be performed before each treatment session. Treatments will involve several manual techniques during the session that will effectively correct soft tissue imbalances, connective tissue restrictions, and help relieve the patient's symptoms. Self treatment techniques, and strengthening exercises may also be given to help enhance the healing process between sessions.
It is necessary for the therapist to have some friction with the skin, so please refrain from using lotions or oil products prior to treatments. Comfortable clothing such as loose fitting shorts, t-shirts, or tank tops should be worn for each session.
PRIMARY TECHNIQUES USED
Myofascial Release (Barns)
This is a highly effective manual treatment approach to help restore range of motion and decrease pain. Sustained pressure is applied into the soft tissue to release connective restrictions that can create pressure on pain sensitive structures such as tendons, ligaments, and nerves.
Craniosacral Release Techniques (CSR)
This is a very gentle technique applied to the cranial bones, spine, and pelvis (sacrum) to help release restrictions in the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system is composed of membranes and cerebral spinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord. Balancing this system will help restore proper functioning of the central nervous system.
Primal (Pain) Reflex Release Techniques (PRRT)
PRRT is an evaluation and treatment technique that is utilized to help decrease abnormal reflex patterns associated from stress, trauma, or injury. These reflex patterns (Startle and Withdrawal) become overstimulated, thus maintaining tension and pain within the body. Decreasing these overexcited reflex patterns will help restore proper functioning of the nervous system and help decrease pain and improve motion.
